The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small landlocked country in the southern foothills of the Himalayan mountain range, sandwiched between the People's Republic of China to the north and the Republic of India to the south. It occupies a compact 38,394 square kilometers, with a population of approximately 735,553 (as of 2017) — a distinctive geopolitical and cultural entity tucked between two of Asia's major powers, along some of the world's highest mountains.
